Blizzard of '77 Anniversary

A look back 32 years ago, Im sure some of you remember this?

I was only 1, sadly I dont remember! I would LOVE to see this first hand!!! How cool would this be???

Great Lakes Blizzard of 1977
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Blizzard of ’77 was a deadly blizzard that hit Buffalo, New York and the area around it in New York and Ontario (and to a lesser extent, surrounding regions) from January 28 to February 1, 1977. Daily peak gusts of 69, 51, 52, 58 and 46 miles per hour (111, 82, 84, 93, and 74 km/h) were recorded during this period at the Buffalo National Weather Service office (National Weather Service Buffalo Office 2006a).

In the hardest struck areas snowmobiles became the only viable method of transportation. In Western New York and Southern Ontario, snow built up on frozen Lake Erie and the snow cover on the ground over land at the start of the blizzard provided ample material for the high winds to blow around into huge drifts. The combination of bitter cold, high winds, and blowing snow paralyzed the areas most strongly affected by the storm. Lake Ontario was not frozen, which meant that northern New York did not have to deal with previously accumulated snow blowing off the lake’s surface. This did allow for considerable lake effect snow to occur, that when coupled with the existing snow cover and wind also created paralysis.

What an amazing thing! Altho, Im sure those that had to deal with it would say otherwise!

I would LOVE to hear your Blizzard of '77 stories and see photos if anyone has them!!

Old Man Winter

In all HIS glory strikes again! I am SO HAPPY!

Youve surely heard of Buffalo winters eh? I think thats what put us on the map and of course our wonderful Buffalo wings!!

This storm was a record breaker for us. He came in around 8am this morning and is STILL going strong without any breaks. We are shut down with travel bans to boot!

It took Jas 2 hours to get home when its normally a 50 min ride. Needless to say he couldnt make it in the driveway and is out plowing.

Its not as pretty as it can be because it is so windy, which makes for very dangerous travel! We have over a foot so far with another 1-3" lake effect tonite. And ANOTHER storm on the way:)

The snomobilers are out in full force, nothing better than the sound of a snomobile coming down the rd!!

Enjoy!

Just as it started coming down

NY In The Fall, Day 2

It was simply STUNNING yesterday!
The weather was beautiful.
The scenery was beautiful.

Kindle spent the weekend with her grandparents, they live in Attica NY! Its about 50 miles South of where we live. I figured we'd take a nice road trip and pick her up on our way home since thats the area I wanted to view.

This place is called Cascade Falls and Devils Hole. There are 2 waterfalls, a smaller one at the top and a tall one at the bottom leading down to Devils Hole. I couldnt get a picture of the tall one because you stand on top of it and the edge to look down is a bit too steep for me! The walk down was a bit hard for me with my ankle, but I DID IT! I was determined to take the kids down there so they could see nature at its finest! And boy was this THE PLACE!!

Bella and Domonic playing in the water which was a bit cool but they didnt mind!

Heading back up to the car. It doesnt look that steep but it really was!
It gave me a HUGE workout, ha!!

More scenery photos, the colors were SO vibrant and breathtaking. The camera really doesnt do this justice!

And that was our scenery road trip!
Be sure to click on the pics to enlarge them!

When we stopped to pick Kin up she came walking out with 2 of the most fragrant dried flower bouqets I have ever seen. Her grandparents live in an old cobblestone home FULL of antiques and primitives. Kathy her grandmother harvests dried flowers for local shops in the area that she grows in her gardens.
I was SO happy when I saw her walking down to the car with these!!

Phew.....this is a long one eh!??

WAIT! Justa few more pics, ha!

Friday afternoon my MIL called over, she needed Bella to come over to look at something with her. So off Bella went. A few hours later Deb calls and said remember how I promised Bella a pony, I said.........yeeeeeeeeeeeeeees!

Meet Velvet, haha! She will board in MILs barn but the pasture will be in our back acre. Shes only 4 years old and sweet as can be. Bella is IN LOVE!!!!
She got spooked last night as Jason was walking her around the yard, Bella on her back, she took a fall and was a little hesitant to get back on but she did:)

Thanks for sharing my weekend with me.
I hope you all had a wonderful one as well!!!

NY In The Fall

Here are a few fall pictures I took today!
We had to take a ride to the petshop to get some pinkies for Jasons snakes and this is what I snapped on the way home. Tomorrow a trip 60 miles South of here is planned for more scenery! Up here on Lake Ontario isnt even close to being at peak yet. We're just starting to see the oranges and reds.

New finds and some fall pics

I picked these up over the weekend at a yard sale.
The wooden box is just awesome! It was a very nice older woman selling, she lost her husband in the Spring and told me he used to use this box as his tool box. Its actually quite heavy so we joked around wondering how he carried it around. The jug I also bought from her, she had a few large crocks for $5 ea which she offered to me plus the jug for $10 total BUT I really dont have the room for the larger crocks plus my menagerie would break them, so I just took the jug for $2:)

And this is some of my fall decor that I have out. I dont have alot of fall decorations, prim style anyhow!
